Make your mirror checks obvious
One common minor fault picked up by students in their tests is a lack of proper observation. What makes this particularly frustrating is the fact that sometimes these observations are made but you get used to glancing at your mirrors, and your examiner may miss this.
Our tip : make your mirror checks nice and obvious, get into a habit of turning your head to make the check clear and make sure to check all the relevant mirrors ahead of any manoeuvre - this includes pulling away, changing lanes and turning.
Have a full length lesson beforehand
Many minor faults like not checking your mirrors, using inappropriate speed or having a so called safe-stall can just be the result of rustiness, a lack of recent driving time in the car you take your test in.
Our tip : book a full hour lesson at least in the time before your test so you are back in touch with the car, the clutch and the driving conditions on that day. Then when your test starts carry on like your driving normally.
Practice your local routes
Your driving test isn't guaranteed to follow a certain route but some paths are more common than others, particularly close to the test centre.
Our tip : ask your instructor to take you out on local known routes around your test centre and concentrate on local important locations like schools, hospitals and major roundabouts that could bring with them increased risks of hazards.
